The Smell of Money

Getting the kettle started again

After a 2 year hiatus, we fired up the tar kettle.

Something I thought id never use again, mostly because the old-school guys that know how to use it, not to mention the hot tar application, are all aging out of the industry.

Well, if you’ve ever priced a special cold-applied adhesive for MB over wet concrete, you’d know why I fired it back up.

After tinkering with it at the office to make sure everything was still functioning, some of the office staff complained of the smell.

I get it. It’s not always pleasant. But as my old boss, and long-time company man used to say. Well, you better get used to it, because that’s the smell of money.

I’ve never forgotten that. The smell to me is not a nuisance, it’s a sweet smell. A smell that were all getting paychecks.

The smell of money.
