You Just Cant Win

This Thanksgiving, I decided to do something I hadn’t done before, pay the guys for the holiday.

Now, you’d think that would be welcomed news, which it was, as I described it the Monday before the holiday, but only if everyone showed up all week and we accomplished what we had set as a goal.

They kept their end of the bargain, so I kept mine. I added everyone’s hours up to 40 for the week, so they could get a full paycheck, and spend time with their families. (Around 11 extra hours per man.)

I told them this the following Monday, expecting most to be very happy, as they worked 3 days for a full check.

I was wrong. I got screamed at by some before they wanted 8 hours both days, and I get screamed at by others because one got 11 hours of pay and another got 12. I get yelled at by some because they figured well why did we work so much if you were going to round us up to 40.

You just can’t win, but I guess I learned a lesson.

Not doing it next year. Thank you for that.

Only in roofing.
