I was hurrying on my way to an appointment today.
My route took me by a building in a rough part of town, we had roofed a few years prior.
The gentlemen we worked for was a nice, compassionate, hard-working guy who had retired and wanted to turn this empty corner store into a thriving business again.
He had the know-how, the tools, the money, and the willingness to do it.
Over numerous meetings with him and engagement during the project, we hit it off. I’ve spoken with him since regarding a reference he gave us for a neighbor, all great, positive stuff.
I drove by this today, and it was boarded up, and tagged with graffiti. It made me genuinely sad.
Sure, it was a rough part of town, but I saw all the hard work, dedication, money, and effort put in to this project. I even did the work for a little less than normal because the guy was just a genuinely great story.
I didn’t think there was any way this would fail. His business plan was solid, he had all the tools and know-how.
And yet, here is it, vacant again.
Disrespected with local graffiti to boot.
Things aren’t just projects, jobs, ways to make money. You build relationships, you share hopes, dreams and visions.
I’m going to call him tomorrow.
